The links between journalists and British intelligence services is to be the subject of a talk by Richard Lance Keeble, at St Martin’s Church, Church Lane, Withcall, on Sunday June 19, starting at 7 pm.
Keeble, Professor of Journalism at the University of Lincoln, will examine the elements that make up the democratic state and compare them with those of the Secret State (also known as the Deep State). There will follow a brief history of the links between the intelligence services and corporate journalists since 1945 – beginning with George Orwell. He will also explore the role of whistleblowers (such as Julian Assange, of WikiLeaks, and the NSA’s Edward Snowden) in bringing to light various aspects of the secret state.
This is the first of a series of ‘Withcall Lectures’ to raise money for St Martin’s.
- Entrance is £5 per person – all money received will go to the church. For more information: 01507 343034.
